Mother’s Day
For most people around the globe, 2nd week of May is very special for this day we commemorate and celebrate the Mother’s day whom we referred to as the light of our home. This special day is celebrated every 11th of May for US and most part of the World. In UK however they call it Mothering Sunday and they celebrated it on the 2nd of March. This is a perfect time for husband and children to give tribute to the woman who makes their lives convenient to live and filled their hearts with love and affection. A perfect time to say thank you.

Julia Howard Howe
A few of us knows where did this celebration originate? Why do we have this special day? Mother’s Day originated nearly 150 years ago in the United States. An Appalachian homemaker named Anna Jarvis organized a “Mother’s Work Day” which aims to raise an awareness of the poor economic and health conditions that directly affects the children in her community. This she believes would be best represented and advocated by mothers.
Julia Ward Howe, a pacifist, suffragist and author of the lyrics to Battle Hymn of the Republic,” proposed to have an annual event called the Mother’s Day. That was fifteen years after the Mother’s Work Day of Anna Jarvis. Unfortunately the idea got little support.

Anna Jarvis
In 1905 Anna Jarvis dies. She had a daughter also by the name Anna wished to create a memorial to her mother’s work and she began to campaign for an official holiday in honor to mothers. She started the campaign in 1907 in Grafton, West Virginia. In the same year, Anna held a ceremony to honor her mother.
West Virginia became the first state to recognize the new holiday. President Wilson then declared the second Monday of May to be Mother’s Day is 1914. Jarvis used white carnations as a symbol for mothers, because carnations represented sweetness, purity and the endurance of mother love.
A little Trivia here, Anna Jarvis never got married and never had children of her own. She filed a lawsuit to stop the Mother’s Day celebration in 1923 because she didn’t like the commercialization of the holiday. She got arrested for disturbing the peace of the Mother’s Convention where white carnations re being sold.
Well, that’s about it. No matter how commercialized the holiday nowadays is, still that gives us the opportunity to show the light of our home our gratitude for the life and the love. Let’s make everyday a Mother’s Day.
Getting Fit at any Age
Thousands of women nowadays are struggling to stay fit, loose those bumps and bulges and stay healthy. It is becoming hard for most women due to the hectic schedule that we have which does not allow us to have extra activities at the end of the day. It’s like we work 25 x 8! Imagine! Well, there’s a saying that “if there’s a will, there’s a way!”.
There are various activities that will help us to maintain the figure, achieve that body we so want to have and get back into our old body. So we have age brackets categories, the 20s, 30s and 40s. Let’s see what are the activities that fits to which age bracket we belong.
To keep fit in your 20s and 30s
According to exercise physiologist who was Personal Fitness Professional Magazine’s 2004 Online Trainer of the Year Calabrese, “Fitness in the 20s and 30s is really all about creating good health habits, and that should really be your main goal.”
In our 20s bones are still developing in this decade. Exercise that help build the strongest bones possible are ideal. The idea is to put bones into stress which encourages them to become stronger. Doing weight-bearing workouts such as those that work your muscles and bones against gravity, like walking or jogging for 30 minutes at least twice a week helps a lot! Having a regular cardio workouts even just for 20-30 minutes two times a weekm an aerobic activity (running), swimming, biking or even dancing, you will reduce the risk of hypertension, high cholesterol, or even heart attack later in life.
In terms of your future health, nothing is more important than regular cardio workouts. You can reap benefits from just 20-30 minutes, twice a week, of an aerobic activity like running, swimming, biking, or even dancing, Carmichael tells WebMD: “You will reduce your risk of hypertension, high cholesterol, or even heart attack later in life.”And the sooner you incorporate fitness into your daily life, the more likely you will be to carry the habit into the next several decades.
“It’s a lot easier to carry a behavior from one decade to the next, than trying to change a behavior in later years,” Carmichael says.
At your 40s
There’s no denying that by the age of 40, no matter how active we were, women’s body begin to change and one of the most significant changes we encounter is the decrease of hormones which does not only affect the bones, heart and health but as well as the weight. The exercise goal during these years is to build muscles that will condition the heart and control weight. Shorter but harder aerobics type workouts to reap cardiovascular benefits is suggested by exercise psychologist Kelli Calabrese.
Lifting Weights while standing, riding in a stationary bike 10 minutes twice a week or sitting in a chair, then standing up, 20 times (both have the same effect) are suggested as strength-training workouts and in strengthening the thigh muscles, or quadriceps, thus giving attention to knee problems. These helps avoiding many mobility problems in the
later years.
As to the cardio workouts, it is safe to continue the routines that you’ve been doing in your 20s and 30s. Any form of activity that gets your heart beating faster such as walking on a treadmill or doing step aerobics at least twice a week will keep you in shape and in good health.
Remember, exercising should go along with eating right and healthy.
