PostHeaderIcon “Women Talks” : How To Choose Your Face Powder

Loreal True Match

Face powder either pressed or loose gives glow as well as smooth look to the skin. Women with oily skin benefits most with face powder application as it conceals the oily look of the skin and makes your skin look perfect. It is used because it is the quickest and easiest way to cover up blemishes. Whether you use face powder to conceal skin oiliness or just to look fresh is not a question. The question now is how to choose the right face powder that suits you best?

It is important to choose face powder that suits your skin tone. Use a face powder that is 1 tone lighter than your skin. Personally it took me sometime to finally stick on one brand as looking for the right face powder that blends my skin and complexion is quite challenging. I went through hit or miss stage in choosing the right powder for me.

To help you decide, consider the following in choosing your face powder.

1. Your complexion – If your face powder isn’t the right shade for your face, it will look like you have dirt smudged on your face. You will likely have some hit or miss in finding the right shade, but in trying to figure out what shade you are, first consider, are you fair, medium, or dark skinned? That will winnow the choices down somewhat. From there, look at the undertone in your skin. Is it pink, peachy, or olive? In any given line of powders, you will probably end up with just two to decide between if you know those two aspects of your skin tone.

*** When picking your color, keep these tips in mind. White powder is best for the evening, since it adds luminosity. If your complexion is sallow, try a mauve or violet tone. Green and blue will tone down colors, pink gives a nice glow for pale skin and apricot works for olive skin that needs to some brightness.

PostHeaderIcon Blush Make up for Asian Beauties

Not all Asian complexions are created equal. As Asian women our complexion depends on what part of Asia we are from, there are many tones that make up the Asian skin tones. Good thing about it is most cosmetic companies understand that yellow is an undertone that suits the Asian skin best. Having too much beige or pink in your foundation is not really a good idea since will not blend into your skin.

Now in applying your blush on, remember that lesser is more. Do NOT overdo your blush on if you want to look like you’ve just been slapped by someone!

Try shades of Peach or Pinks with a little gold for that natural flushed look:

Quick tip: Where do you apply the blush: After you’ve done some light activity, where do you see you get flushed? On the apples of your cheeks… smile… that would look definitely pretty!

PostHeaderIcon Cat Eyes

cat eyesCat eyes are strutting down the streets again. The look, popularized by fashion icon Audrey Hepburn in the 60s has more than nine lives – resurrecting on classic Angelina Jolie, rocker Gwen Stefani and quirky Amy Winehouse. The two staples of this look are black and liquid eyeliner, and the wing -tipped end. Application can be tricky, but with these fool-proof tips, a steady hand, and lots of practice, you’ll get it perfect.

step1

STEP 1

Dot your eyelid with cream concealer, then blend with your ring finger or a triangular sponge. Lightly dust loose powder on top of it. This evens out your skin tone and creates the perfect canvas for your liquid liner to adhere to.

step2

STEP 2

Tilt your head back, then line your lash line with black eye pencil. “This prevents that unsightly gap of flesh between your lash line and the liquid liner, “says Lancome chief makeup artist Gela Laurel.

step3

STEP 3

Lightly pull your eyelid taut and create small short strokes on your upper lashline. “Use your lower lashline as a guide for your wingtip – that’s what you follow to create the upward, outward flick,” says Laurel.

step4

STEP 4

Clean your lashes with a cotton bud to avoid getting the liquid liner on the area under your eye. Wait 30 seconds for the eyeliner to dry. Curl your lashes and swipe on a layer or two of mascara.

Here are some makeup tricks that will update your usual looks.

Dramatic Eyes

How To Do It:
Black is the color of choice here. Set the eye area with concealer, then use liquid eyeliner on your upper lashline, creating a wing tup at the outer corner of the eye. Not comfortable with liquid liner? Replace it wirh a kohl pencil, which comes after applying black eyeshadow from the base of your lashes up to your brow bone. Line your lower lashline too, and blend all visible lines witha cotton tip or blending brush.

Monochromatic Paletter

mono

How To Do It:
Because this look doesn’t utilize any bright color to highlight, clear skin is an absolute must. After cleansing, treat your skin to a moisture infused mask for 10 minutes, then even out sin with your choice of foundation. Stick to color-related shades of shades of sand, ochre, and taupe, for your eyeshadow and lipstick, while peach blush lends a light flush lends a light flush on the cheeks.

Bold Lips

bold lips

How To Do It:
To prevent anything from robbing the spotlight from your bright-colored lips, keep the rest of your makeup soft. Create a flawless base by covering up all blemishes, because intense lipstick shades tend to emphasize imperfections. Groom your brows, curl your lashes and apply a layer or two of mascara. For formula, matte lipstick was a popular choice on the runway, so follow suit and skip the lipgloss, or dot the center of your moth with some gloss for subtle luster.

Foxy Brown

foxy brown

How To Do It:
Mix and match brown shades like chocolate, coffee, mocha, tan and auburn on your eyes, cheeks, and lips. Choose a focal point and give that the most emphasis, then tone down the rest of the shades. Feel free to add gloss or shine, like glitter on your eyelids, a bronze glow on your cheeks, or sheen on your lips. This gives your look dimension, and adds oomph to the monochromatic shades.

Futuristic Features

futuristic

How To Do It:
This look is not about painting your face silver like a Star Trek alien. It’s about angles, lines, and metallic traces. Apply gray and silver eyeshadow on your lids, then use a pointy eye shadow brush to line the outer corner of your eyes, extending it upwards and outwards. Dot silver lipgloss or lipstick on the center of your mouth over your regular lipstick, then pull back your hair in a hight ponytail for a sleek finish.

Pop Art Color

pop art

How To Do It::
The bright shade dresses up your look instantly, but two can create mayhem. Pick one feature only (most makeup artists highlighted the eyes) and keep the rest of your face in neutral shades. To get this look, apply shadow from the root of your lashes up to your browbone, extending to the outer edges for a modified cat eye, then blend until harsh edges are softened. Top off with black eyeliner for definition.

Full Brows

full brows

How To Do It:
Meant to be outrageously thick for the catwalk, this look should be toned down for everyday wear. Use an eyebrow powder or pencil to enhance your natural arch, making sure to use a shade that matches your brow color. Pros say it’s okay to go a little lighter, but never darker, as this can make you look older. Tame unruly brows with a gel, or if you’re in a hurry, use a bit of hairspray to keep your arches in place.
