PostHeaderIcon Bb. Pilipinas World 2008 Janina San Miguel Resigned

JaninaWe haven’t heard so much from Bb. Pilipinas World Janina San Miguel after the controversial winning of the crown last March 2008. It’s a pity that she is most remembered by the disastrous Q&A portion in the pageant which the judges surprisingly gave her the crown to represent Philippines in such a prestigious beauty and brains competition. After the result, some loved her some hated her.

Here’s what’s fresh and hot from the beauty queen! Just 8 hours ago, Bb. Pilipinas Charity announced that Ms. Janina San Miguel resigned as Philippine’s official bet to Ms. World Pageant in Africa this November.

A statement from the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) said San Miguel cited as reason for her decision the recent death of his grandfather.

“The untimely demise of her grandfather, among other personal reasons, has caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title,” the BPCI statement read.

“BPCI wishes to express its gratitude to Ms. San Miguel for this act of graciousness and concern for the country. They also wish her well in her future endeavors,” it added.

In accordance with BPCI rules and regulations, 1st Runner-Up Danielle Castaño will replace Ms. San Miguel as the official Philippine representative to the Ms. World 2008 pageant,” it added.

PostHeaderIcon Tips on How to sleep better when working in the Graveyard Shift

latenightworkIf you work the night shift, or graveyard shift, you may find it impossible to feel well rested when you have to sleep during the day. This article will give tips on how to be able to work the night shift and be able to get a good night’s sleep during the day.

Our society can not function without people working around the clock; the world cannot shut down at 10:00 P.M.. This is unfortunate for those that work the night shift and for society because accidents due to night shift errors is very common. Lack of sleep is thought to be the blame in the 1986 Chernobyl and 1979 Three Mile Island nuclear power plant melt downs. Also, in 1986 the Columbia space shuttle nearly had a fatal launch due to “operator fatigue” of a night shift worker. In a 1988 study the Wall Street Journal reports; there is an estimated 70 billion dollars of lost productivity and mistakes due to fatigued night shift workers.

Experts now realize that sleep loss is dangerous and that night shift work has different effects on sleep, health and work performance. Night shift workers may have increased sleep disorders, gastrointestinal complaints, ulcers, heart problems, high blood pressure depression, mood swings, substance abuse and fatigue.

Most people need 8 hours of sleep a day to feel rested. Parts of the nights sleep are spent in light sleep stages and the other parts of the night are spent in deep sleep stages. The deep sleep portion is the most important time of the sleep process where you nourish and restore your brain and body functions. With out the deep sleep you will not feel rested. Through out the night we go back and forth from deep to light sleep. We stay in the deep for about 45 minutes and then if we are deeply disrupted we come back up into light sleep. It is normal to have five 45 minutes deep sleep cycles in an 8 hour period. Anything that upsets these cycles will cause sleep problems.

PostHeaderIcon Strawberry Beauty Recipes

I’ve been searching for practical recipes that suits the budget of most of the girls out there. Here, let me share with you some simple beauty recipes made from strawberry.

Strawberry contains several polyphenols that have high antioxidant capacity. They are also high in Vitamin C which is also a potent antioxidant.

Strawberry Hand and Foot Exfoliant

- 8-10 Strawberries
- 2 tablespoons Apricot Oil (you may substitute olive oil)
-1 teaspoon of coarse salt, such as Kosher Salt, or Sea Salt

Mix together all ingredients, massage into hands and feet, rinse, and pat dry. Strawberries contain a natural fruit acid which aids in exfoliation.

Strawberry Cream (for oily or normal skin)

- 1/2 oz. white beeswax
- 1 1/2 oz. sweet almond oil
- 1 oz. apricot kernel oil
- 1 oz. strawberry juice (or apricot or peach or honey-dew melon)
- 8 drops tincture of benzoin (known to be STRONG sensitizer)

Wash, drain, and mash 4-5 large strawberries. Squeeze out the juice and strain through muslin or cheesecloth. Heat the beeswax and the oils together in a double boiler until the wax is melted. Remove from the heat and add the juice quickly. Beat the mixture until it is fluffy. Add the benzoin and beat until it is cool. You must beat the mixture until it cools or else it will separate.

Strawberry Garlic Facial Scrub & Mask

Strawberries are great astringents, and, despite its aroma, garlic makes a great toner for oily and acneic skin. The sweet odor of the strawberries does a good job of neutralizing (but not completely masking) the garlic aroma. The tea tree oil pretty much covers it completely though a bit of garlic-i-ness still shines through. It feels great on the skin, especially oily areas on teen skin, and you’ll feel the slight tingle of the combined astringent action of the tea tree, strawberries and garlic.

- 1 small clove garlic
- 2 tablespoons boiling distilled water
- 3 mashed strawberries, tops removed
- 2 tablespoons ground oats
- 1 tablespoon polenta
- 1 teaspoon plain yogurt
- 2 drops tea tree essential oil

>Press the garlic using a presser. Be sure to catch all of the juice and pressed garlic into a small cup. Add the hot distilled water to the garlic and allow to soak for 1/2 hour or so.

>Mash the strawberries with the back of a fork until they are totally squished. Do not process them in a food processor as they will become too watery for this recipe. The strawberries should be squished, but there should still be light chunks of flesh.

>Using a cheese cloth, piece of muslin or strainer, strain the garlic from the steeped garlic water. Discard the garlic pieces and pour the garlic water into the strawberry flesh. Stir.

>Add the oats and cornmeal and stir to incorporate. Add the yogurt and stir.

>Add the tea tree essential oil last and stir to mix. To use, place Strawberry Garlic Facial Scrub & Mask in your palms and gently scrub face and neck area avoiding eyes. You can allow the mixture to remain on the skin for about 10 minutes as a mask. Rinse well using warm water and pat excess moisture from skin. Follow with toner and light moisturizer.

>The shelf life of this product is necessarily limited by the fresh ingredients. It should be used immediately after it is made.
